LEM Christian School
Instructing Liberia's Future Leaders
Light Evangelism Christian School was established in 2013 on the Light Evangelism campus in Fendel, Liberia, just 25 miles from the capital of Monrovia. Our pioneer missionaries, Zach and Katie Byington, were instrumental in getting the school up and running. Katie was the principal and worked alongside Sister Sankay Marbiah, who took on the principal role when the Byingtons returned to the States. In the first semester, there were just 8 students. In 2017, we enrolled 350 students from the surrounding communities. We praise the Lord for the growth of this campus!
LEMCS has proven itself to be highly competitive among Liberian private schools. In 2014, 100% of our 9th graders passed the West African National Exam, a feat rarely accomplished by other schools in Liberia. The school closed for 18 months due to the Ebola crisis, but reopened even stronger in 2016. 2018 brought our first graduating class, and we look forward to the success of our 9th and 12th graders again on the National Exam.
The teaching staff at LEMCS is honest, caring, and excellent. Over 1/2 of LEM teachers hold bachelor degrees in different areas of Education. Our other teachers all have teaching certificates from the national training center. We recognize that setting low educational standards is detrimental to the learning and educational development of our students. The LEM teaching staff is, therefore, dedicated to providing subject matter with great expectations. And our students are always rising to the challenge!!
Our students gather around the school flagpole every morning for the pledge, a devotion, and prayer. Bible is also a primary subject in all grade levels. There is a chapel service held every Friday. Education is key to the future of our children and of Liberia, but without the Gospel of Jesus Christ it is all in vain. For this reason, we adamantly pursue the spiritual development of our students.
We are currently raising funds to complete two projects at the school.
Finishing construction on the 7 remaining classrooms
We welcome you to join us in these efforts!
